North Port lots sale town meeting set

NORTH PORT  (FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 04, 2005) - The public is encouraged to attend a town meeting at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 8, in the North Port Performing Arts Center to learn more about the upcoming auction of approximately 2,100 North Port residential lots. The performing arts center is located on the North Port High School campus, 6400 W. Price Blvd., North Port.

Representatives of Fisher Auction Company of Pompano Beach, Florida, will be present to talk about such details as auction procedures, an upcoming seminar for potential bidders, auction dates and broker registration procedures.

Fisher Auction was recently retained by Sarasota County to conduct the auction, which is the result of a cooperative effort between the City of North Port and Sarasota County. The city will receive 55 percent of the proceeds and the county 45 percent.

Revenue from the sale of the lots will be used for public purposes and projects, such as encouraging the development of affordable housing in Sarasota County and infrastructure construction in North Port.

The City of North Port and Sarasota County have agreed to give the Sarasota County School Board 55 lots that lie within future North Port school sites. Sarasota County is also giving $5 million from its lot sale proceeds to the school board to build schools in North Port.
